About Sabrina
Who Is Sabrina
Sabrina (aka Sabrina the Songstress) is a vocalist who has performed at many Jazz and Blues Night clubs, special events/receptions, parties, local festivals and many other venues throughout California for approximately 15 years or more before taking a lengthy break to serve in the “Wellness” community of California.
During this break in her music career, she also decided to return to school and study music theory, basic musicianship and learn piano; also while taking piano lessons from world-renown music Professor and Vocal Coach, Jacqueline Hairston of Charlotte, NC. “I felt that it was high time for me to actually learn music (reading, writing and playing an instrument); for the purpose of taking my show/performance to a higher level and being able to speak the language of musicians,” expressed Sabrina. “And, I especially wanted to accomplish this prior to ever returning to the stage as I could feel my burning desire to begin performing again,” she adds.
Her Inspiration
Sabrina’s initial inspiration came from listening to her father’s jazz albums, particularly the late Nancy Wilson albums that he began playing when Sabrina was about five years of age. And then there were the Billie Holiday songs as sung by Diana Ross in “ Lady Sings the Blues” the movie which came some years later. Sabrina only dreamed of being on stage during these formative years before later deciding to live out this dream.
Sabrina returned to the stage in 2019, focusing her complete attention on her musical journey. In the past she was well known for her touching Tribute Show to Lady Day (the late Billie Holiday), as well as her Tribute to Nat King Cole.
Now Sabrina is stepping out with a whole new show of mostly inspirational, uplifting tunes, including many popular jazz standards sung by gifted legends from our past and present, like Louis Armstrong’s“What a Wonderful World”, Nat King Cole’s “Smile”, Bill Whither’s “Lovely Day” and, of course tunes sung by her favorite legends like Nancy Wilson and Sarah Vaughan.
The Songstress Emerges
While Sabrina was once simply referred to as a “jazz/blues vocalist”, she now refers to herself as Sabrina the Songstress as her genre now stretches across all music lines (jazz, blues, R&B, pop, and more).
Sabrina has set her sight on traveling around the Country performing primarily at festivals. Both small and large venues. Her desire is to share messages of “empowerment” through songs to help us all ascend and expand to our highest self (the loving, compassionate, gentle beings that we were born to be), thus contributing to the restoration of peace, beauty and harmony on the planet. “I simply want to do my part in this important work and have fun doing it; realizing that music and singing inspirational tunes is a good avenue, as it can be healing.”
